Summary

Saffron is an animated flare serif with tempered angular serifs, chiseled calligraphic curves and diamond dots.

It features a slightly taller x-height, slightly narrower forms for the lowercase, and classic proportions for the capitals.

As for the small-caps they are slightly wider which lends this typeface suited for decorated passages. Surprisingly it also reads quite well as body text.

Two centuries ago, the Empire and Church was torn asunder due to the rebellion of the Prophet and the ineptitude of the Emperor (whom is also the Highest Priest) of the Known Lands. This is the cursed Emperor whom we call the Faltered. His noted corruption of plundering the Leaves from the people at the time, and his deviation from the teachings by the Shepherd.

The Prophet rebuked the Faltered Emperor on his vast array of sins. The people longing for prosperity preached by the Shepherd followed the Prophet. They adhered to his teachings and drank from what we know today as the Emerald Leaf (a variant of the Onyx Leaf). When the Prophet amassed a sizeable following, he declared a Holy War against the Emperor and the Church. A sense of unwavering devotion flowed through the Prophet and his followers. They perceived their cause to be to be righteous and instilled in them the drink of the Emerald Leaf. Their battles brazen, roars ferocious, swords sharp and unastray. Blood bled from the earth, the Trees set ablaze and corpses laid abundant like grains of sand in a desert.

As the war came to a climax, the Prophet and his followers conquered the Capital City. They burnt the Emperor and those loyal to him alive for all to see. Fanatic screams were abound and his followers chanting the Prophets name and praising the Emerald Leaf for their victory. Emerald Trees now supplanted the Onyx Trees in the fallen Capital.

In the aftermath of the war, the Capital and a third of the Known Lands were in the dominion of the Prophet and his newly appointed Emerald Priests. And thus the schism was complete.
